What a servant to the cause!! Always gave his all and a huge pity if this is true. Was so often the go to man and never failed to deliver.

As IMF said if it is true we should honour him and say thanks for all the great years

Saw him in the Clan Stand before the Toulouse match. I really felt for him then (and even more so if this news is true)as he really deserved to be out there after all he gave to Connacht rugby.

Sad sad news if it turns out to be true but the injury he got was very serious..............

He really was one terribly tough nut!! :(

Hope SP is right and this isn't true, but you have to say it's looking ominious with the lack of news on his injury since it happenend.

If it is true is there any way we could get some kind of award for him at the end of the season from the Clan to show our appreciation for his years of service?

It may in all likelyhood be true which would be terrible new for Keith and Connacht supporters, but I would not want to jump the gun on this as there has been no announcement of any sort yet...

Wow that's really surprising and really disappointing. He must be devastated. Easily one of our most consistent players, the ball always came back when he got tackled.

Poor Keith, absolutely gutted for him. He has been a great servant for Connacht rugby and put his heart and soul into our team.

A player probably wouldn't like to have an entire career summed up in a single act, but I'll never forget his break off a Big George pass against Bourgoin in the Amlin quarter final. It had me jumping and screaming, after that break we were a different team.

Really disappointing news for Keith and the club. He always gave 110% whenever he played. Pity he never made it in to the Heineken Cup alright, he would have deserved it.

I'd heard that his injury wasn't healing and he was out for the season, but this is quite a shock nonetheless. I think it's fair to say he was one of the most popular (and consistent) of our players. He'll be hugely missed and it's a real shame he didn't get to play in the HC after years of hard slog towards it.

Just heard that Keith Matthews has been forced to retire from rugby due to injury.
Really gutted for him, was a fantastic servant of Connacht and never gave less than his all when playing.

Good luck for the future, Keith.
