I actually feel a little sorry for Penney. Ulster and Leinster each have more than a dozen foreign born players in their squads; he's had to make do - and delivered more in Europe with - half that number. And who could blame him for being paranoid when his thanks was a politburo heave by Comrade Foleyev?
Being paranoid he might also think that if one of the Big 3 got over taken by Connacht (yeah, in our dreams, mate) it would be the one with an oversized debt loaded stadium that almost never fills because it's located smack bang in the middle of the city that suffered most from Ireland's worst recession in a century.
I can understand his pissed-off-ed-ness even if it's not factually based, but since he's only here a wet week he wouldn't understand the historic underinvestment in Connacht, or that we used have only 2 front line provinces until Ulster were lifted up by the Pienaar-Muller-Payne investment, and that doing the same for Connacht is good for the national team.
The only part of this I'd criticise him for is his laughable statement that there are players in the other provinces or England we should be signing. The likes of Paddy Butler and Billy Holland would rather be 3rd choice 8 and 5th choice lock for Munster than come to Connacht. Leinster's response to Connacht's interest in Jack Conan was to give him a full contract. So I guess what Penney's really saying here is we should fill out our squad with Championship players and know our f*****g place.
could'nt have put put that better myself.

I see that Juston Melck is being released by Saracens he was at Munster for a while and did quite well so wouldn't mind getting my hands on him and he's IE.

clanman wrote: there's not much wrong with our current backline with bundee aki included but i have to question the wisdom of bringing in Muliaina, no doubt he brings a wealth of knowledge however by the time he plays for Connacht he will be 34 and what we need is a player that plays and more importantly i would have prefereed a full-time backs\defence coach than a guy who is a mentor. the current guys need coaching not mentoring.
As far as a no.10 you'd wonder if Glasgow would be willing to offer us one of their 3 very decent out-halves. I'd be surprised if all 3 stay at the club for next season. Apparently their young out-half was oustanding against treviso, can't think of his name right now
As i've said before we need more grunt in the pack, have we signed any new forwards?
jackson is going to Wasps to they'll be left with 2
Finn Russell is who your thinking of
Seriously, we cant sign anymore non irish players

First viewing but paddy butler had another great game at 8 following on from his motm performance at sportsground. He carried with pace and power, tackled and rucked well and linked well with backline moves. Everything you want from an 8/ backrow.
Would love to get hold of Butler but didn't he sign a contract extension at Munster?

Just a hunch, especially if young O'Leary is not playing 9.
