"councillors agreed to hold a special meeting on March 25 to finalise an application for a large scale sport infrastructure fund from the Department of Transport, Tourism, and Sport.
Councillors are considering four projects which include Connacht Rugby’s plan for a stadium upgrade, as well as a world class swimming facility at Cappagh Park."

Anyone know what the story is with this presentation? The article says it's today but the City Council website doesn't list a meeting for today.

The Rowing Club plan has a lot more merit, though I would be shocked if that is not slap in the middle of an SAC. Also the fact that it is just one of several rowing clubs applying to build it itself and not a joint venture through Rowing Ireland or whatever must surely count against it.

The real problem could be that they fail to pick one at all, in which case the Sportsground, and Galway in general, could miss out due to half hearted backing and politicians trying to be too smart and please everyone/not p!ss off anyone. To quote from the article: "Already, councillors are seeking to see if they can compromise and promote all three".
Might be no harm to start adding a list of who-voted-how on Connacht rugby/Sportsground related issues to the Stats section.

1/ All weather pitch can be used all year round by any field sport
2/ The pro team are an economic plus for the area
A 34m pool is no good to anyone to be honest, if you're going big you might as well go 50m or stick to 25m whilst 34 is neither fish nor fowl.
Rowing club is surely pretty single sport specific but on the flip side both projects will be looking for lower funding than we are.

Probably only benefit is upkeep, the surface at the SG is firm and drains well any time of year. If it rains regardless of of Grass/4G a wet ball is a wet ball...
